Usage Notes:

WOTD: LAMOG (adj.) - bruised







"Lamog" is a term most commonly used to mean a bruised fruit.

"Lamog na mansanas" = bruised apple

"Saging na lamog" = bruised banana

It may also be used as a noun.

"Maraming nang lamog ang papaya" = The papaya already has a lot of bruises

"Mahirap nang ibenta ang prutas kapag may nakikita nang lamog" = It is already difficult to sell a fruit when bruises are already visible

Its common verb forms are "malamog" (subject-focused) and "lamugin" (object-focused)

"malamog" (to get bruised) - nalamog, nalalamog, malalamog

"lamugin" (to bruise) - nilamog, nilalamog, lalamugin

"Ingatan mo ang paghawak sa manga at baka malamog" = Be careful in handling/holding the mango as it might get bruised.

"Kapag nilagay mo ang mga saging sa ilalim ng ibang gamit mo sa bag, siguradong malalamog iyan. = If you'd put the bananas at the bottom of your other stuff in the bag, for sure it will get bruised.

"Bakit mo pinagugulong sa sahig ang pakway? Nilalamog mo ba siya?" = Why are you rolling the watermelon on the floor? Are you bruising it?"

"Nilamog muna ng bata ang peras bago niya ito kinain" = The child bruised the pear first before he ate it.

We sometimes use it figuratively on people, but often in humor.

"Huwag mo akong yakapin nang masyadong mahigpit at baka malamog ako" = Don't embrace/hug me too tight as I might get bruised". �"
