The "maya" used to be the national bird of the Philippines until about a couple of decades ago. It was then replaced by the Philippine eagle, which used to be known as the "monkey-eating eagle".

"May dalawang mayang dumapo sa sanga ng puno ng mangga" = There were two sparrows that alighted on the branch of the mango tree

When the word is repeated, they take different meanings:

"máya-maya" = snapper (fish)

"mayámayá = in a little while/a little while later

"Nagpiprito si Mary ng máya-maya at mayámayá ay kakain na sila ng tanghalian" = Mary is frying a snapper and in a little while they will be eating lunch.
