Usage Note Icon Usage Notes:
The root word is "takip" (cover), but when made into an object-focused verb with an "an" suffix, the "i" is removed such that it becomes "takpan". Its conjugation is "tinakpan", "tinatakpan", and "tatakpan". Its subject-focused counterpart is "magtakip".

"Takpan mo ang bote" = Put the lid on the bottle.

"Takpan mo ang mga mata mo" = "Takpan mo ang iyong mga mata" = Cover your eyes.

"Magtakip ka ng mga mata mo" = "Magtakip ka ng iyong mga mata" = Cover your eyes. (Same meaning as the previouse sentence, but using the subject-focused verb instead).

"Tinakpan ni Maria ang (mga) tainga niya nang kumanta ka." = Maria covered her ears when you sang.

"Tinatakpan ni Clara ang bibig niya pag/kapag tumatawa siya kasi wala siyang ngipin" = Clara covers her mouth when she laughs because she has no teeth.

"Jose, kailan mo ba tatakpan 'yung butas sa bubong?" = Jose, when will you cover/seal the hole on the roof?
