Question: what is the rule for placing adverbs in a sentence? in this case 'bigla'

Biglang nagising ako nang magingay ang pusa ko
Nagising akong bigla nang magingay ang pusa ko
I'm trying to say "I woke up suddenlty when my cat made noise"
Any feedback to make this sentence sound more natural?

Adverbs may be placed before or after a verb and a linker is needed between them.

“Nang” is used when the adverb FOLLOWS the verb. - Nagising NANG bigla
“Na” is used when the adverb PRECEDES the verb. - Bigla NA nagising = BiglaNG nagising

However, when they are used in a sentence, sometimes the linker is not needed.

When the sentence begins with the verb or its adverb and the actor is a PRONOUN, it would sound more natural for the actor pronoun to be placed BETWEEN them.

Bigla AKONG nagising nang mag-ingay ang pusa ko. - “Akong” is “ako na”, but we would always use “akong” here and never “ako na”. Your first sentence would sound more natural this way.

Nagising AKONG/AKO NANG bigla nang mag-ingay ang pusa ko. - This is your original sentence and it sounds natural. It’s really “ako nang” that we use here but in our normal way of speaking it might sound like “akong” and that spelling is acceptable. Also, the “nang” may be optional here that some of us might just say it as “Nagising AKO bigla nang mag-ingay...”

The following is just additional info:

When the actor is NOT A PRONOUN, it may be placed either:

1. AFTER the verb-adverb combination.

BiglaNG nagising SI JOHN/ANG BABAE nang mag-ingay...
Nagising (nang) bigla SI JOHN/ANG BABAE nang mag-ingay... - The “nang” is optional.

or 2. BETWEEN the verb-adverb combination.

Bigla SI JOHN/ANG BABAE nagising nang mag-ingay... - The “na” is omitted.
Nagising SI JOHN/ANG BABAE (nang) bigla nang mag-ingay... - The “nang” is optional.

*I can only think of “agad/kaagad (immediately)” now, but there could be other adverbs that do not really require a linker when placed AFTER the verb. No linker is used in the following:

Nagising AKO AGAD nang mag-ingay ang pusa ko.
Nagising AGAD si John/ang babae nang mag-ingay...
Nagising si John/ang babae AGAD nang mag-ingay...

However, when “agad” is placed BEFORE the verb:

AGAD AKONG nagising nang mag-ingay... - The “na” is still required
AGAD (na) nagising si John/ang babae nang mag-ingay... - The “na” is optional.
AGAD si John/ang babae (na) nagising nang mag-ingay... - The “na” is optional and we are even more likely to just omit it.

BTW, when the root word of the verb begins with a vowel, a hyphen is placed between the “mag” prefix and the root word - “mag-ingay”.
