Hello and apologies. Sorry I did not introduce myself when I hopped on this site a couple of weeks ago. I served with the U.S. Peace Corps on the island of Panay from 1967 to 1970. At the time I was somewhat proficient in Ilonggo (Hiligaynon) and Kinaray-a. With the advent of social media, I reestablished contact with several Filipinos whom I knew at the time, and have been back three times since 2013. It was also social media that made me realize that Tagalog is much more prevalent throughout the islands than it was 50 years ago. Hence, my desire to learn the language. My teachers so far have been mainly Rosetta Stone and the music of ASIN, Coritha and Freddie Aguilar. I am quite happy to have found this site, and am finding it very instructive.

@Diegocorry That's great! I imagine there have been a lot of changes since the late '60s, especially in Metro Manila. What were you doing in the Philippines for the Peace Corp back then? Online resources for Illongo are not great, I've noticed, but at least there are some. My wife's, on the other hand, has almost no good documentation of her first tongue.

Glad to hear you are finding the site useful!

@TLDCAdmin My first assignment was teaching chemistry and statistics at the Iloilo National College of Agriculture (now Western Visayas State University - College of Agriculture and Forestry) in Lambunao, Iloilo. My second assignment consisted of agricultural research at Central Philippine University in Jaro. Many changes indeed! (Although I can't say much about Manila since I spent no more than a few days total there - Iloilo City, though, has grown and sprawled immensely.) Agreed on resources for Ilonggo, but it's good to have friends who can help when called upon!
