Hello! My name is Jess. I am from London and I am a Intermediate Filipino language student.
I am studying the Filipino language because I'm a second generation Filipina who never learned the language, but now I am moving to the Philippines to spend more time with family so I want to be able to speak more than just a few phrases.
I have also created an Instagram account called @filiphrases which is building a community of Tagalog learners and Baybayin enthusiasts to share in their learning
Love this site and love the community here - its really helped me so far to understand verbs and pronunciation a lot better

@Jeitrix227 Hi Jess. I'm Lance. I see from your Instagram site that you are relocating to Leyte. I'm similar, studying Tagalog, though my grandmother was from Cebu, and I'm going there next year. I've found some souces for Bisayan language, and I found that it's very similar to Waray. Some of the resources are public domain, so free. PM me if you're interested.

@Lancent Oh wow! That's so cool - I really speak very little Waray because I spend a lot of my time at my cousins place in Manila whenever I am the Philippines. I would love to see more of the resource! Will drop you a PM

@Jeitrix227 Not all of Leyte is Waray. The west and the south are Cebuano and Boholano. Tacloban however is the center of Waray culture. I love Leyte, but I'm afraid Region 8 is held back by awful weather catastrophes.

@akosikoneho It's good to know of the regional differences in Leyte. My sister-in-law's family lives near the city of Leyte at the northern part of the island, and they speak Waray-Waray. (I don't know what's the difference between Waray & Waray-Waray, if any.) Since I'm studying Cebuano, maybe I'll be able to say a few words to them.

@akosikoneho It's so funny - since I don't go much further than Carigara when I am in Leyte, I have never had to speak anything other than Waray, so it was only when I started making friends with other Leyte natives in the UK that I realised not all of us speak the same language!
You are right about the weather catastrophes though - my family have been hit quite badly in recent times, but they are always in good spirits about everything (in true Filipino style)
Nice to meet you!
