How do you learn stress on verb aspects?

How do you learn stress on verb aspects?
Rather than learning rules regarding stress patterns in verb aspects, I have just been learning them by exposure. How about you? Are there any rules you've found worth learning for this?

There's really no stress patterns like in Spanish so it's something you have to get used to.
