Magpunta and Pumunta are actually a good example of where the mag and -um- usages don't differ too much. In the command form Magpunta ka na nga! and Pumunta ka na nga!they are virtually the same. To quote Ken Yamauchi from reddit and formerly the PH Langs discord.

Example: Nagbabasa-basa naman ako ng libro. (Sometimes, I am reading a book.)
Nagpupunta ka pa ba sa bahay ng lola-lolo mo? (Do you still go (to visit, or any purpose) to your grandparent's house? or much better, Do you still pay a visit to your grandparent's house (because before you had once used to)?)
Pumupunta ka ba sa bahay ng lola-lolo mo? (Do you go to your grandparent's house? (just a plain question))"
