Do you have any videos of News stories? I believe it's a good source to listen to formal way of speaking in Tagalog.

@Khang Not at the moment...we need permission to post transcripts in the Listening Practice section -- would be nice if we could get it. Unless you can find Youtube videos with built in transcripts that we could import?

I see. I don't know how to identify if there are built-in transcripts in the video. So asking permission means you have to contact first the broadcasting tv news department for permission?

www.captionpop.com/s earch?nl=en&tl=fil&f ilter=both&q=balita

This tool here lets you search by subtitle... I got no hits with tagalog subs when I searched "balita" or "news". Infact, I almost never get hits for tagalog captions ;( . I would imagine a large part of that is deaf and HoH Filipinos are taught English over Tagalog.

Long time partner was a sped teacher, former neighbor was deaf we communicated in manual english and FSL. Tagalog knowledge was nonexistant.

Interesting. Thank you for enlightening me. I do appreciate your effort to help other people learn the Tagalog language.

@Khang If you don't need subtitles then I'd suggest watching Atty. Harry Roque on Youtube; an example: www.youtube.com/watc h?v=Y0VtZALtSAM

I suggest this person because he speaks in complete Filipino(except for terms from foreign languages) in every news. In addition, he speaks Filipino in the most neutral accent so this will give you a great reference to how the language sounds, and this will help you listening comprehension.

Hopefully this bit will help your progress.

The listening practice videos are out of this world. This is ground breaking stuff. Thank you!

Khang, i watch and listen to childrens stories in Tagalog with eng subtitles. A little boring but simple sentences in an obvious context and well enunciated. Hoping to tune my ears and brain for quicker word recognition. I know lots of words but, spoken in a sentence, I get stuck on a word and miss the rest of what is said or miss the meaning of the sentence as a whole.

@Aling same here with the cartoons on youtube. try to parrot everything and if you don't understand slow it down and repeat a few times before moving on. you will notice sometimes you might not understand a native when they are speaking fast but if you recognize just one word it puts everything else into context. don't get discouraged and don't dwell on things for too long either. I am more than 10 years in and there are days everything clicks and I feel fluent and still other days nothing clicks at all haha.
