"Kaya" should only be used for the English word "can" as a synonym for "able" or "capable." Ex: She can (is able to) walk. It should NOT be used as a synonym or "may" or to request permission Ex: In the sentence "May I got to the bathroom?" it would be wrong to use "kaya." To ask permissions, use "puwede" instead.
