"Putol" is the general term for cutting something. When we use "putol" ("magputol" or "putulin") we mean to cut something by whichever way is appropriate, including "with bare hands". For example, if we know that Peter cut the grass by using shears, we would tend to say "naggupít ng damó", but in case we are not sure about what he used to do it, we would more likely say "nagputol ng damó".
Formal Rank: #1546 Casual Rank: #942 ** A lower rank means the word is used more frequently. For example, rank #1 would be the most frequently used word.
Method: This script ranks all words by frequency using both formal sources (mostly newspaper articles) and informal sources (a combination of over 100 hours of transcribed audio, internet comments, and amateur fiction writing) to roughly determine whether a word is used more frequency in casual or formal contexts.
