"Tense vs Aspect A few really good examples I found that show the difference between English tense and Tagalog aspect. (I am a beginner so please correct me if these are not good examples). They certainly helped clarify a few things in my mind. "Kumakain ako ng pizza kahapon nang dumating siya." = I was eating pizza yesterday when she arrived. "Kakain dapat ako ng pizza kahapon kung hindi..."

"Just a thought for people trying to learn English tenses. To start with we have three simple tenses; past , present and future. I loved, I love and I shall love. Each of these three also has a continuous form; I was loving, I am loving and I shall be loving. Each of these six has a perfect form: I had loved, I have loved, I shall have loved, I had been loving, I have been loving and I shall have been loving. So that makes 12 tenses. "Question: Bones and Seeds. Buto and Tinik. In English, bones are from animals and seeds are from fruits. But am I right in thinking that the distinction between buto and tinik is different in Tagalog? So tinik means specifically the bones of fish whereas buto means seeds as well as the bones of chickens, pigs, cows etc...."

"Beginner here so I hesitate to comment. But nothing ventured nothing gained :) Firstly gradual is an adjective rather than a noun. I am confident of that bit :) Secondly, as it is an adjective, could unti-unting also be an adjective with a linker (as well as an adverb)? So for instance would 'a gradual realisation' be translated as 'isang unti-unting realisasyon'? And interesting to me as a beginner is the use of unti-unting as an adverb. As a beginner I would have translated gradually as nang unti-u..."
